FALL RIVER - Alice (Viveiros) Rego, 100, of Somerset Ridge Center, 455 Brayton Ave., Somerset, formerly of Grant St., Fall River, a retired garment worker, died Thursday, March 16th at the center. She was the wife of 68 years to the late Joseph Moniz Rego.
Born in Fall River, MA, she was a daughter of the late John and Mariana Alberta (Rodrigues) Viveiros; she lived in Fall River for most of her life as well as Portsmouth, RI, Somerset and So. Dartmouth. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, home decorating and gardening (pansies). She was a feisty, energetic, and giving woman full of life, who loved making everyone happy.
Mrs. Viveiros worked for 25 years as a sewing machine operator at the former Beacon Garment until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of the I.L.G.W.U., now U.N.I.T.E. She was a member of Santo Christo Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda R. Moreira and her husband John of So. Dartmouth; a son, Clement J. Rego and his wife Janice of Portsmouth, RI; two sisters, Albertina Vincent of Peterborough, NH and Eleanor Struba of Fall River; a brother, Albert Viveiros of E. Longmeadow, MA; six grandchildren, Michael Rego, Christopher Rego, Allison Rego, Matthew Rego, Adam Moreira and Eric Moreira; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and god-children. She was the mother of the late Paula Rego and sister of the late Arthur, Anthony and Raymond Viveiros. The family would like to thank the staff of Somerset Ridge for the excellent care she received as a resident and Compassionate Care Hospice for making her comfortable and peaceful during her last days.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday, March 22nd at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia Street, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church, Columbia Street.
