Antonio S. Tavares, Jr.

FALL RIVER… Antonio S. Tavares, Jr., 85 passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 21, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones. He was the husband of Maria P.(Rebelo) Tavares.

Born in Furnas, St. Michael, Azores, he worked at the golf course. He enjoyed volleyball, riding horses, tending to his farm, and was an avid Benfica soccer fan.

He was employed as a laborer with Narragansett Improvement in Providence until retiring in 1987 after 31 years of employment. He was a communicant of Santo Christo Church where he was a part of the choir and administered communion to the homebound. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, his daughter, Natalie Araujo (husband Joseph) of Fall River, son, Joseph Tavares of Florida; two sisters, Maria Jose Medeiros and Maria dos Anjos Barbosa both of Fall River, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews .

Mr. Tavares is now reunited with his parents, the late Antonio S. and Maria dos Anjos (Gonsalves) Tavares, his sister the late Carmen Andrade and his beloved son, Antonio M. Tavares.
