Diniz M. de Medeiros

Diniz M. de Medeiros, 89, of Fall River, passed away early Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Passing peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Formerly of Tucker Street, Diniz was born in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores, July 2nd 1934. He was the son of the late Antonio de Medeiros and Maria dos Anjos (Miranda) de Medeiros.

Enlisting in 1951, Diniz served in the Brazilian Navy, making his way to the United States via the Carvalho Araujo. Prior to his retirement, Diniz served as an orderly in the Orthopedic Department for Morton Hospital for many, many years. He also owned an established farm in Taunton for over 30 years where he raised and sold cattle. Always having passion in life and learning, Diniz obtained several Bachelor’s degrees, an electrician’s license, and a captain’s license. He also served in the Rhode Island Civil Air Defense and as a liaison for the city, welcoming migrants. Diniz had an affinity for sailing, captaining ships, playing the harmonica, music, photography.

Diniz is survived by his siblings Liduina Noverca, Esmeralda Miranda Jackson, and Olympia Thomas-Boucher. He was predeceased by his sister Zita (de Medeiros) Carneiro, his brother Verissimo Antonio Miranda de Medeiros. He is also survived by his nephew, whom he considered a son, Verissimo Antonio Medeiros, his great nephew Corey Medeiros, and his great great nephew Boston Medeiros. He was also the uncle of Donald, Laiz, Monica, Lillian, Russell “Rusty” and his wife JoBeth, Tania, Laurie, Lynne, Sonya, Rebecca “Becky”, Vania, John, Patrick, Scott, Arthur “Artie”, as well as several great nieces and nephews and several great great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his nephew Paul.

His funeral will be held Monday, January 22, at 9 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Santo Christo Parish, Columbia St., Fall River. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held Sunday evening from 4 to 7 PM.
