Dorothy (Rua) Arruda, 90, formerly of Columbia St., a retired garment worker, died Monday at Southpointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Care. She was the wife of the late Joseph P. Arruda.
Born in Fall River, MA, she was a daughter of the late Amorim and Caroline (Melo) Rua; she lived most of her life in Fall River. Mrs. Arruda worked as a sewing machine operator for many years at the former Shelburne Shirt Mfg. She was a former member of the ILGWU, now U.N.I.T.E. She was a member of Santo Christo Church.
She is survived by a three daughters, Carol Nowa (husband Paul) of Indianapolis, Indiana, Joyce Silvia (husband David) of Ohio and Dorothea Eckersley (husband Jack) of Tiverton; a son, Joseph Arruda of Fall River; a sister, Evangelina Costa of Fall River; four grandchildren, Kathryn Jones, Matthew Silvia, Joseph and James Arruda; a great-grandson, Brady Jones; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Gil Rua, Mary Souza, Olivia Pontes and Sophia Braga.
Her funeral will be held Friday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia Street, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Committal prayers and interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 4-8 p.m.
