NEW BEDFORD…. Elsie (Soares) Rocha, 96, of Careone New Bedford, 221 Fitzgerald Dr., New Bedford, formerly of Fall River, a garment worker and foster grandparent, died Tuesday, Sept. 13th at Careone. She was the wife of the late Manuel C. Rocha.
Born in Fall River, MA, she was a daughter of the late Manuel and Maria Jose (Moreira) Soares; she lived most of her life in Fall River. She was a member of the former St. Peter & Paul Parish and its Retiree Club, the Massachusetts Senior Action Council, the Portuguese American Veterans Auxiliary, Rudolph Souza Post 1 and a life member of the ILGWU, now UNITE.
Mrs. Rocha worked as a trimmer for many years at the former Rochelle Apparel. Mrs. Rocha also worked for CFC as a foster grandparent for various Fall River Public Schools
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce C. White and her husband Timothy of Wellington, Ohio; a son, Robert C. Rocha, Sr. of Longmonte, Colorado; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Maria J. Carepa and Henry Soares.
Her funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Chapel, Pulaski St. Committal prayers and interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours Sunday 4-8 p.m.
