George P. Mello, age 88, of Fall River, passed away on March 9, 2026. Prior to moving to Fall River, he was a resident of Somerset for 21 years and also spent time in Leesburg, Florida.

He was the beloved husband of Cecelia "Linda" (Ayala) Mello, with whom he shared over 66 beautiful years of marriage.

Born in Somerset, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Louis Mello and Rosalina (Moniz) Mello.

George attended Somerset High School and proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army. He had a strong work ethic, spending his primary career as a machine operator in the textile industry before retiring from Harodite Finishing in 1997. Always busy providing for his family, he also worked as a meat clerk at Stop & Shop and part-time at Joe’s Livery and Oliveira Funeral Homes. Remembered as a "sweet man" who enjoyed a good cigar, George was highly athletic in his youth, participating in track, basketball, and football while in Somerset High School. Throughout his life, he enjoyed bowling and golfing, and was a passionate fan of New England sports, particularly baseball. A man of deep faith, he was a 4th-degree Knight of Columbus.

In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by his children: Patricia Tourgee (husband William), Karen Souza, and Christine Russo (partner Michele Seigle). He was preceded in death by his son George Mello Jr. He also leaves behind daughter-in-law Erin Mello and sisters: Alice Mello and Doris Norton. He was the proud grandfather "Pops" of Jarrett Gaspar, Alycia Mello (partner Nicole), Lucas Tourgee (wife Katie), Kyle Souza (wife Trinity), and Faith Mello; great grandfather "G Pop" of Melody Souza. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cherished "grand-dogs." He was preceded in death by his little angel Kayla, and his siblings Lorraine Martins, Evelyn Carpenter, Louis Mello and Norman Mello.
