FALL RIVER - Gilbert M. "Cabby" Cabeceiras, 88, of Assonet, MA, a retired textile worker, died Sunday, August 20th at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Eleanor (Peterson) Cabeceiras and Ruthanne (Waring) Cabeceiras.
Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Francisco and Philomena (Motta) Cabeceiras, he lived in Assonet and Florida for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. In his youth he played baseball for Santo Christo Church CYO and soccer for different teams. He was a member of the former Tennessee Boys Club and the former Lusitano Club. He enjoyed going to the race track. Mr. Cabeceiras worked as a cutter for many years in the local textile industry.
He is survived by a daughter, Paula Rodrigues-Hallal and her husband James of Assonet; a son, Gilbert F. Cabeceiras of Fall River; a sister, Elaine Faria of Zephyrhills, FL; four grandchildren, Jody, Lisa, Andrew and Amy; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Friday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Cremation to follow. Burial of cremains will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours Thursday 6-8 p.m. www.oliveirafuneralhomes.com
