Gilberta E. (Tavares) Brum

FALL RIVER… Gilberta Encarnacao (Tavares) Brum, 98, of Fall River, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.

She was the widow of the late Nascimento Brum.

Born in Sao Vincente Ferreira, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Joao de Sousa Tavares and Maria (da Encarnacao) Tavares.

Gilberta spent most of her life as a homemaker and well known babysitter in the local Columbia Street area. She was a communicant of Santo Christo Parish and enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her cats (especially Coco). Most of all, she loved her large family and the time she spent with them.

Gilberta is survived by her daughters: Connie Rego (the late David), of Fall River, Amy Cabral (Tony), of Somerset, Mary Cordeiro (James Petrosso), of Swansea, Maryjo Medeiros (Leonard), of Westport, and Fatima Cabral, of Fall River; her son Emanuel Brum (Bonnie), of Somerset; her sister Coltide Reis, of Canada; her grandchildren: Jason Cabral, Patti Rego, Karen Botelho, Tracey Ferreira, Keri Medeiros, Jordan Medeiros, Aaron Cabral, and Joshua Brum; her great grandchildren: Jackson Ferreira, Kayla Botelho, Kory Botelho, Olivia Medeiros, and Maxine Platt; several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Irene Amaral, Conceicao Lima, Belmira Carreiro, and Manuel Tavares.

A visitation will be held Monday, April 10, from 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM, from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., Fall River. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
