Helen Ferreira

Fall River

Our hearts are heavy, yet we rejoice as we share that our precious mother, Helen M. Ferreira, age 92, entered into the presence of her Savior on August 12, 2026.

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”

Psalm 116:15

Helen was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on October 26, 1933, the daughter of Antonio Rezendes and Clothilde Rezendes. She was the beloved wife of the late Aires Ferreira.

Throughout her working years, Helen was employed in the garment industry and later served as a Certified Nursing Assistant for several years. Caring for others came naturally to her. She lovingly cared for several of her siblings and was always ready to help friends in their time of need.

Helen was deeply devoted to her Christian faith and to her church family. She was one of the founders of Grace Gospel Church and faithfully served there for more than 40 years, including through music and as a greeter. She also supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for many years, a cause that was very dear to her heart.

Helen was an avid reader and, as her family will fondly remember, she loved to clean. Her family affectionately knew her as “Mrs. Clean.”

Most importantly, Helen was a generous, loving, and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was at the center of her life, and her love, faith, kindness, and devotion will remain a treasured part of her legacy.

Helen is survived by her three children, Steven Ferreira, Lee Martel (husband Jerry), and Cheryl Edward (husband Bill). She also leaves two grandchildren, Tara Belanger and Lauren McDonald, as well as seven great-grandchildren: Gabe, Calvin, Leland, and Wesley Belanger, Ella, Duke, and Maverick McDonald. She was predeceased by her son, Junior, as well as three brothers and two sisters.

“Our precious mother, you cannot return to us, but we will one day go to you.”

2 Samuel 12:23

In keeping with Helen’s wishes, her funeral service will be a small gathering of immediate family. As we honor her wishes with love, the family is deeply grateful for the prayers, love, kindness, and many expressions of sympathy from all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Helen’s memory.
