FALL RIVER - Hilda "Betty" (Nobrega) Fiola, 91, of Fall River, died Wednesday at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Fiola.
Born in Fall River, MA, she was a daughter of the late John and Cecilia (Valentino) Nobrega; the former proprietors for many years of Nobrega's Market on Columbia Street; she lived her entire life in Fall River. She was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1945. She was a member and past president of the East End Sportsman's Club Ladies Auxiliary. Hilda could be seen daily with her friends at McDonald's on William Canning Blvd.
Mrs. Fiola was the 1st female employee to work in the shipping department at the former Sarama Lighting before retiring in 1988.
She is survived by a daughter, Vivian Leary, Esq. and her husband Michael of Swansea, MA; a son, Kenneth Fiola, Jr., Esq. and his wife State Representative Carole Fiola of Fall River; a sister, Paula Botelho of Fall River; four grandchildren, Kelly Leary Sipe, Erin Leary Aguiar, Alexandra Fiola and Lauren Fiola; four great-grandchildren, Hannah Sipe, Michael Aguiar, Hillary Aguiar and Samantha Aguiar; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John Nobrega, Alfred Nobrega, Henry Nobrega and Lionel Nobrega.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Hilda's Funeral Service on Monday, February 13th at 10 a.m. in the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia Street., Fall River. Committal prayers and interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Robeson Street, Fall River. Calling hours Sunday 4-8 at the Columbia Street location.
