Hilda S. Mendonca

FALL RIVER - Hilda S. (Manteiga) Mendonca, 91, Somerset, a retired social worker, died Thursday, May 25th at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late August Mendonca.
Born in Fall River, MA, she was a daughter of the late Antonio S. and Maria (Cordeiro) Manteiga; she lived in Somerset since 1968 and was a communicant of St. John of God Church in Somerset. Mrs. Mendonca worked as a social worker for the City of Fall River and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Hilda loved the opera and frequented the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.
She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Johnson of Somerset; a son, Joseph A. Mendonca of Fall River; a son-in-law, Allan Johnson of Fall River; three sisters, Mary Slusack and Theresa Moniz, both of Somerset and Madeline Jacobson of California; a granddaughter, Nicole Johnson of Somerset; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John Manteiga, Odelia Silvia and Frances Richards.
Her funeral will be held Friday, June 2nd at 8:45 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia Street, Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John of God Church, Brayton Ave., Somerset. Cremation to follow. Calling hours Thursday 4-7 pm.
