Inês (Correia) DeSousa, 91, of Fall River, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026, surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of the late Leonel DeSousa.
Born in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel, Azores, she was the daughter of the late José Correia and the late Maria José Da Silva. Inês and her family immigrated to Fall River in 1978 in pursuit of a better life.
Inês was a dedicated hard worker throughout her life, employed briefly in the textile industry, before spending most of her life caring for her family as a homemaker. A woman who cherished the outdoors, she took immense pleasure in gardening, cooking and hosting and attending yard sales. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life and one of her favorite ways to spend a day was having cookouts with her family at Colt State Park. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, creating fond memories on summer road trips to Toronto, Canada, for which she would lovingly prepare sandwiches which were enjoyed shortly after reaching the Braga Bridge.
She is survived by her children: Maria De Lurdes DeSousa (husband Luis) of Toronto, Canada; Carlos DeSousa (wife Ana) of Mississauga, Canada; Luis Sousa (wife Angie) of Swansea; Olga Burton (husband David) of Fall River; Emanuel Sousa (partner Lynn) of Fall River; and Lilia Hauck (husband Robert) of Dartmouth. She was the mother of the late Davide DeSousa. She was the sister of the late António Correia, João Correia, Merçes Correia, Conceição Moniz, Palmira Calouro, and José Correia. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Friday, January 23, 2026 from 5 to 8 PM at the Oliveira Funeral Home - South Main Street Chapel, 2064 South Main Street in Fall River.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 9 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Good Shepherd Parish, South Main Street, Fall River. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
