James Souza, 80, of Anthony St., Fall River, died Thursday at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of 54 years to Dolores (Cabral) Souza.
Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Manuel and Emily (Santos-Araujo) Souza, he was a lifelong resident of this city and a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Souza owned and managed the former New England Poultry for over 50 years.
Mr. Souza was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church. He served on the credit committee of the former St. Elizabeth's Credit Union. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed trips to Newport Grand and Foxwoods.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael J. Souza and his wife Donna of Fall River; a grandson, Matthew M. Souza; an aunt, Irene Furtado; his beloved cousin, Manuel Araujo and his wife Avis and their son, Manny James Araujo of Denver, CO; many other cousins; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. He was the brother of late Emily Souza.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church. Visitation with receiving line 10 - 11 a.m. to be held in church prior to mass. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in James's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St.
