FALL RIVER - James C. Travassos, 95, of Whipple St., a retired police officer, died Tuesday, September 27th at St. Anne's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Beatrice (Rego) Travassos.
Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Joseph and Antonia (da Cambra) Travassos; he was a lifelong resident of Fall River and a member of Santo Christo Church. Mr. Travassos, a World War II Army veteran who served in Europe, was with the Fall River Police Department for 30 years, retiring as a sergeant. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. J Boehr Council in Tiverton. He enjoyed bingo, gardening and was a lifelong Red Sox fan.
He is survived by a daughter, Carol A. Branco and her husband Paul of Fall River; a son, James R. Travassos of Fall River; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph, Henry and Edmond Travassos, Georgianna Silvia, Mary Lopes, Alma Lopes and Elvira Lecko and the grandfather of the late Lori Sullivan.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:45 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Burial will be private. Visitation morning of funeral from 8-9:15 a.m.
