Joao T. Benjamin

Joao T. Benjamin, 74, of Grant St., Fall River, a retired boat builder, died Sunday at KTC/Crawford in Fall River. He was the husband of Maria F. (Cabral) Benjamin.

Born Feteiras do Sul, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Mariano and Silvana (de Jesus) Benjamin; he lived in this city since 1978 and was a member of Santo Christo Church. Mr. Benjamin was employed for 20 years by the former Albin Marine Mfg. of Portsmouth. He was a member of the Santo Christo Club and a former member of Fall River Sports Club.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Jose M. Benjamin of Fall River, John Luis Benjamin (wife Ana) of Fall River and Serafim Benjamin (wife Nelia) of Somerset, MA; two sisters, Luisa Vasconcelos and Romana Verissimo, both of St. Michael, Azores; two brothers, Eduardo Benjamin of Woonsocket, RI and Jose Benjamin of St. Michael, Azores; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Maria C. (Benjamin) De Torres, the brother of the late Manuel Benjamin and the father-in-law of the late Margaret M. (Pereira) Benjamin.

His funeral will be held Thursday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 5-8 p.m.
