John F. "Jack" Duarte

December 18, 1948 — August 30, 2016

FALL RIVER…. John F. "Jack" Duarte, 67, of Tiverton, RI, received his angel wings on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. Beloved husband of Grace (Lowney) Duarte and father of Alyson Duarte and her boyfriend Patrick Rioux, Jr. of Fall River, David Duarte (Fall River Firefighter) and his wife Jessica of Westport, MA and the late Jason Duarte, grandfather of Lane Gosselin and Madison Duarte. Son of the late John F. Duarte, Sr. and Alyce (Mathias) Duarte. His brothers and sisters: Joseph Duarte, Linda DaPonte and Elizabeth Turlington. John joined the USAF where he attended DLI studying the Arabic language and was then assigned to NSA in Athens, Greece. He worked for the U.S. Navy for the Dept. of Public Works for 10 years later transferring to the USPS where he worked as a clerk, personal assistant and supervisor. He graduated from Roger Williams with a degree in Mech Tech Engineering. He enjoyed cooking, reading, sports, camping, country music and jai alai. Devoting himself, John always helped others and put their needs before his own. John's life was indeed a gift, a blessing, a story. Adventurous valleys of pain and pleasure, he is now at peace on his journey to Heaven. Above all he was selfless, strong, courageous and wise beyond his years. He will truly be missed but not forgotten as his legacy will be shared and treasured throughout his family and friends. The family would like to especially acknowledge Shannon Montigny from Southcoast VNA. His funeral will be held Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016 at 8:45 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Tiverton. Cremation to follow. Calling hours Monday 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southcoast VNA, 200 Mill Rd., Ste 180, Fairhaven, MA 02719 or Tiverton Senior Center, Attn: Janice Gomes.
