John F. "Jellie" Mello, 91, formerly of Globe St., Fall River, died Friday at RI Home & Hospice in Providence. He was the husband of the late Evangelina "Angie" (Simoes) Mello.
Born in Fall River, MA, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Rose (Clement) Mello; he lived most of his life in Fall River and was a member of the Liberal Club. He was an avid Patriots fan. Mr. Mello retired in 1985 after 18 years with P.D. Humphrey in Tiverton and was a retired member of the Teamsters Union Local 526 in E. Providence. He previously worked for 20 years for Santos Trucking.
He is survived by a son, Alfred J. "Fred" Mello (wife Jocelyn) of Somerset; a grandson, Christopher Mello of Waltham, MA; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Manuel F. Mello, Ambrosina Silvia, Antone F. Mello and Joseph F. Mello.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Tiverton. Committal prayers and interment in Notre Dame Cemetery Calling hours Tuesday 5-7 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Philip Hulitar Home and Hospice, 1085 North Main St., Providene, RI.
