John B. Raposa, age 91, of Tiverton, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026.
John was the beloved husband of Judith "Judy" (Hopkins) Raposa.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late John B. Raposa Sr. and Mary (Williams) Raposa. John fondly remembered his early life on Division Street. John shared many stories of helping his dad care for their prized canaries, learning plumbing alongside his uncle and cousin and spending time among family.
John was very proud of his tap-dancing career. A card-carrying member of SAG-AFTRA, he was a talented tap dancer with his own stage act. John traveled to Boston, New York and California to perform in shows and famously showcased his dancing on Ted Mack and The Original Amateur Hour, the 1950’s version of American Idol.
John proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1963 as a Petty Officer First Class. John valued the training he received which shaped his principles and led to his career in data processing. John will be buried with military honors.
Professionally, John started his career at Darwood Manufacturing in Fall River. Here, John’s computer training in the navy, strong work ethic and love of a well-made suit would converge. He worked as a Management Information Systems Director and enjoyed his years working. John retired fromGilbane Development Company.
John was an avid golfer and member of the Fall River Country Club since 1963. John was “golf coach” to many over the years but none more than his partner and best friend, Judy. In 2012, club members honored John with the Tom Tetrault Sportsman of the Year award.
John possessed a remarkable ability to fix anything and always had a project going. John had a vibrant passion for music and dancing and enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends.
John was a quiet force of kindness and integrity, liked by all who met him. John often advised and encouraged his family with wisdom such as, “First things first” and “Slow down, take your time and do it right”. John led by example and inspired us all to always do our very best.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his son John (Shelley), and Wayne, and Gregg (Michelle). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Terrance, Nick, Amber, Dave, Connor, and Cody.
His visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 21st, from 4 - 7 PM at Oliveira Funeral Home, South Main Street Chapel, 2064 South Main Street, Fall River.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 22nd, at 9:00 AM from the funeral home, followed by prayers at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River.
