John Sousa

John Sousa, 67, of Swansea, Massachusetts, passed away on October 21, 2025.

    He was born in Madeira, Portugal, the son of the late Manuel Sousa and the late Maria do Rosario Sousa.

    In his younger years, Mr. Sousa worked as a presser in the garment manufacturing industry. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Navy.

    He was also a dedicated volunteer at the Fall River Catholic Services soup kitchen for over 10 years. John was a caring and good son, who faithfully brought his mother and brother to his sister's house every Sunday, for lunch. Later, he would often visit his mother in the nursing home, thoughtfully bringing her her favorite Dunkin' Donuts and taking care of her laundry.

    He is survived by his sister, Maria Jose Sousa Dalu; his niece, Susanne Miranda Whritenour and her husband Nicholas, and their children, Paxton, Addyson, and Calliope. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Antonio Miranda and his wife Dina; and his cousin, Maria Celina Candido, her daughter Lisa, and her children Zachary and Giovanni. He leaves many cousins in the Fall River area, United Kingdom, and Madeira, Portugal. He was the brother of the late Connie Miranda, the late Rosa Aurora Miranda Sousa, and the late Jose Sousa.

    His funeral will be held Tuesday at 8 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., Fall river, MA 02721 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM at Santo Christo Church, Fall River. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
