Jose Alberto

Jose Alberto, 87, of Tiverton, died Tuesday at home. He was the husband of Maria de Lourdes (Chaves) Alberto.
Born in Furnas, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel Rego Alberto and Maria Jose (de Sousa-Cruz) Alberto; he lived in Tiverton for the past 53 years and was a member of Holy Ghost Church. Mr. Alberto worked as a machine operator at the former Capri Textile.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Peggy Gaughan (husband Christopher) of Westport, MA; two sons, Joseph Alberto and Edward Alberto, both of Tiverton; six sisters, Maria Mello, Margarida Farias, Natalia Mendonca, Ana Costa, Eduarda Vincente and Audet Pereira, all of Ontario, Canada; two brothers, Antonio Alberto of Ontario, Canada and Manuel Alberto of St. Michael, Azores; four grandchildren, Michael and Alexandra Melo, Cassandra and Lindsey Gaughan; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Natalie Melo and the brother of the late Lauriano.
Her funeral will be held Friday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St., followed by a funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hour Thursday 5-8 p.m.
