Jose P. Piques

Jose P. Piques, 87, of Fall River, a retired convenience store owner, died Saturday at St. Anne's Hospital. He was the husband of Maria N. (Pires) Piques.

Born in Lagoa, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel and Conceicao (Lima) Piques; his earlier years were spent in the Azores, later moving to Bermuda where he lived for several years before emigrating to this country in 1970. He was a member of Good Shepherd Parish. Mr. Piques was the owner of the former Piques Mini Mart for 20 years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Delia Fezette (husband William) of Tiverton, RI, Lynn Bercier (husband Jean-Paul, Jr.) of Westport, MA and Sandy Pavao of Fall River; two brothers, Duarte Piques of E. Providence, RI and Adriano Piques of Tennessee; five grandchildren, Bobby and Eric Brasil, Jean-Paul Bercier III, Ashley Pavao and Kady Armstrong; four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Leah, Cali and Jeremy; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joao Piques.

His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Good Shepherd Parish. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
