Jose Rego Vieira, 78, of Fall River, Massachusetts, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Saint Anne’s Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Maria Fatima (Melo) Vieira.
Born in Furnas, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Antonio Vieira and the late Maria Do Lurdes Melo.
Prior to immigrating to the United States, Mr. Vieira served in the Portuguese Army, in Angola. Following his military service, he worked as a machine operator in the textile industry for Swan Finishing until his retirement. He was a parishioner of Good Shepherd Parish and a member of the Taunton Eagle Sports Club. A true outdoorsman, Jose was an avid fisherman and found great joy in his garden, where he loved to see things grow. He also enjoyed watching wrestling and took pride in making his own Portuguese wine. Remembered as a "beautiful soul all the way around," Jose was the family protector and a superhero to those he loved, always ready to help people in need.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children: Suzette Raposo (and her husband Fernando) and Derek Vieira. He leaves behind his siblings: Genoveva Costa (wife of the late Antonio), Fernanda Costa (wife of the late Armando), Manuel Vieira (and his wife Guilhermina), and Evonne Lagoa (and her husband Jacinto). He was the proud grandfather of Trendon Raposo, Derek Jr. Vieira, Jr., Aislinn Raposo, Chelsea Lynn Vieira, and Jacob Edwards Vieira. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Americo Vieira.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2026 from 5 to 8 PM at the Oliveira Funeral Home - South Main Street Chapel, 2064 South Main Street in Fall River.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at 10 AM at Good Shepherd Parish, South Main Street, Fall River. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
