Kenneth “Ken” Burton, age 84, of Tiverton, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his devoted family.
Ken was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Patricia Burton, his parents Charles and Geraldine Burton, and his brother Charles Burton II.
Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, Ken spent most of his life residing in Tiverton, RI, with his wife, raising their two sons.
He graduated from Durfee High School and enjoyed sharing stories of his past varsity football playing days.
Ken proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, receiving an honorable discharge. He was part of history, aboard a ship that was part of the blockade instituted during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Ken dedicated his career to what started out as Fall River Electric, then after a series of acquisitions became today National Grid.
Ken began his electrical work as a lineman, rising to a role as a superintendent. He took pride in his hands-on approach to work and cherished the friendships he made along the way.
He was fortunate to retire early at the age of 58. Awarded a plaque by his team that simply stated, “First Class Ken, from your Men.” While he missed his team, Ken embraced retirement—playing golf, traveling, and making memories with family and friends.
A committed member of the Knights of Columbus, Ken served his council in various capacities. He was also active in the Lions Club, the Liberal Club, and worshipped at Holy Ghost and St. Theresa churches in Tiverton.
Ken is survived by his sons, Steven (fiancée Bea Moran) and David Burton (wife Olga); grandchildren Heather Hunt (husband Anthony), Connor Burton, and Leandra Biddle (husband Nash); and great-granddaughter Adison Hunt.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Southcoast Oncology Center, Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association, and Charlton Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care.
A private Celebration of Life will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (St. Jude).
