PORTSMOUTH… Lewis E. Waite, Jr., 77, of Portsmouth passed away April 25, 2019 at Royal Middletown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He was the loving husband of Ferne B. (Major) Waite to whom he was married for the past 11 years.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Lewis E., Sr. and Emma (Perry) Waite. He had lived most of his life in Tiverton and Little Compton.
Mr. Waite was a Veteran of the United States Army and had worked as a Research & Development Worker for 16 years at Raytheon in Portsmouth, prior to his retirement. He was an avid boater, and loved showing his Siamese Cats at various competitions through the years. He also thoroughly enjoyed the meals prepared for him by Ferne.
Along with his wife, survivors include his daughters: Melanie Waite and Jennifer Waite, both of Virginia; his step-daughters: Roberta Aylsworth of Tiverton and Dawn Anderson of Barrington; his step-son: Richard Giguere of Exeter; his sisters: Barbara Wilkie, Judy Gomez and Rochelle Wordell, all of Little Compton; his brother: James Waite of Little Compton; his aunt: Louise Jones of Little Compton; his best friend: Cecilia Glover of Portsmouth; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 11 AM at Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 South Main St. Fall River, MA 02724 followed by burial at Newport Memorial Park, in Middletown. Calling hours will be held from 9 – 11 AM, prior to the service.
