Louis "Louie" Pestana

June 23, 1940 — March 7, 2017

PROVIDENCE - Louis "Louie" Pestana, 76, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, March 7th, 2017 at the Philip Hulitar Center in Providence, RI.
He was the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Botelho) Pestana. Louis is survived by his wife and best friend for fifty years, Judith (Mathias) Pestana and his cherished daughters Melissa Pestana and her partner Ted Freitas and Michele Pestana and her partner David Fedorowich. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren Zoe Mae Pestana and Spencer Reid Fedorowich and a loving sister Ezaltina and her husband William Carvalho and many caring nieces and nephews and not to be forgotten his constant canine companion "Kadie".
Louis was a Vietnam Era veteran who served in Korea for most of his enlistment and was very proud of his military service in the Army.
He was educated in the Fall River schools and graduated from Fisher College with an Associate Degree in Business. He was employed before his retirement by the former Brooks Drugs as a carpentry supervisor in remodeling stores from Maine to Pennsylvania.
He was an avid outdoorsman who succeeded in climbing Tuckerman Ravine at Mt. Washington. He shared his enthusiasm in fishing, gardening, camping and hiking with his children and grandchildren. He was always there to lend a hand or to lend his pickup truck with his many friends and family.
Louie was a devoted father and husband. He was funny, strong, reliable, caring and genuine. He would never let you down and gave the best hugs. He was one of the toughest guys you could meet but he wouldn't hesitate to rescue a wounded dove or soothe a crying baby.
Louie's funeral will be held Monday, March 13th at 9 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 South Main Street, Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Good Shepherd Parish, South Main Street, Fall River. Cremation to follow. Calling hours Sunday, 4-8 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the Coalition Against Pediatric Pain (TCAPP), P.O. Box 1433, Marshfield, MA 02050.
