Manuel "Mosquita" Garcia, 101, of Fall River, a talented electrician for many years, passed away on Thursday in order to celebrate his 101st birthday with the Lord and his late wife. He was the loving husband of the late Maria Jose (Furtado) Garcia.

Born in Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Anthony and Beatriz (Costa) Garcia; he emigrated to this country in 1961 where he became an active member of the Santo Christo Parish Community and developed a deep devotion for Senhor Santo Christo, Mr. Garcia decorated and dawned the church with lighting for the annual feast for many years. He also did the same for Our Lady of the Rosary Church in E. Providence, RI, the Holy Ghost Feast at Kennedy Park and for Convento Da Esperanca in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Azores. He was a longtime member of the Academica Club, the Ateneu Luso American Club and the former Tennessee Boys' Club.


He is survived by three loving daughters, Mary Oliveira (husband Dennis) of Fall River, Lillian Tavares of Foxboro, MA and Beatriz Smaldone (husband Michael) of Dartmouth, MA; three loving sons, Louis Garcia (companion Gerry) of Fall River, Antonio Garcia of Fall River and Edward Garcia (wife Filomena) of Cape Coral, FL; a brother, Edward Costa of Fall River; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Antonio M. Garcia and the brother of the late Connie Costa.

His funeral will be held Monday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Committal prayers and interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday 4-8 p.m.
