Maria Ana (Pacheco) Baptista, 97, of Fall River, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her devoted family and cherished friends.
She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Baptista.
Born in Furnas, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, Maria was the daughter of the late Manuel Pacheco and Maria Christina Da Costa Guilherme.
Maria dedicated much of her working life to the garment industry, where she was employed as a seamstress, including her years at Kerr Mill. Beyond her professional accomplishments, she was a gifted homemaker, artisan, and caregiver. Known for her kindness, warmth, and joyful spirit, Maria brought happiness to those around her and never missed an opportunity to share a laugh. Her many talents included crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, and gardening, all of which reflected her creativity and attention to detail.
An exceptional cook and baker, Maria found great joy in preparing meals, desserts, and special treats for family gatherings. She was especially known for creating beautiful intricate cakes and handcrafted gifts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Maria's happiness came from being surrounded by her large and loving family, of which she was the proud matriarch. Her welcoming smile, generous heart, and unwavering love created lasting memories for all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Joseph Baptista, Connie Baptista, and Jorge Baptista. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Edward Baptista, and her granddaughter, Natarcia Cruz.
She is also survived by her sisters, Idalina Sousa, Evangelina Cruz, and Judite Pavao, along with many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by several siblings.
A visitation will be held Monday evening, August 24, 2026, from 5 – 8 PM at the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., Fall River, MA.
Her funeral will follow the next day, Tuesday, August 25, at 9 AM at the Oliveira Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM at Santo Christo Church. Interment will be held in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River, MA.
