Maria Jose Carvalho

Maria Jose (Azevedo) Carvalho, 67, of Swansea, died Thursday at St. Anne's Hospital. She was the wife of the late John F. Carvalho.
Born in Rabo de Peixe, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Diamantina Azevedo; she lived in Swansea for past 38 years. Mrs. Carvalho worked for many years as a seamstress in the local garment industry.
She is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Sampson and Susana M. Carvalho-Young, both of Swansea and Melissa Bettencourt of Somerset; a son, John Carvalho, Jr. of Forney, TX; a sister, Ana Rebelo of Somerset; three brothers, Joseph Azevedo and Manuel Azevedo, both of Swansea and Larry Azevedo of Ludlow, MA; seven grandchildren, Aliscia Carvalho, Brendan Carvalho, Riley Carvalho, Aidan Carvalho, Hope Bettencourt, Michael Bettencourt and Trinity Young; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Helen Azevedo, Octavio Azevedo and Antonio Azevedo.
Her funeral will be held Monday at 8:45 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia Street, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Swansea. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours Sunday 4-8 p.m. www.
