Maria Conceicao (Moniz) Sousa

FALL RIVER… Maria Conceicao (Moniz) Sousa, 70, of Fall River, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at her home with family.

She was the loving wife of Antonio Paulo Sousa.

Born in Ponta Garca, Sao Miguel, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Antonio Fontes Moniz and Claudina (Vieira) Moniz.

Prior to retiring, Maria worked as a seamstress at the former Griffin Manufacturing, in Fall River. She always liked helping others and was a highly active volunteer and devoted parishioner at Good Shepherd Parish. She enjoyed cooking for her family, sewing, helping her husband with gardening and taking care of flowers. Most of all, Connie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Along with her husband, survivors include her sons: Deacon Nelson M. Sousa (wife Sarah), of Tulsa, OK, and Tony M. Sousa, of Fall River; her grandchildren: Madalene, Veronica, Catherine, and Anthony; several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jose Moniz.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 9:00 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home – South Main St. Chapel, 2064 South Main St. Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Good Shepherd Parish, South Main St., Fall River. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. A visitation will be held Friday evening, from 4 – 7 PM.
