Maria Costa

Maria Conceicao (Borges) Costa, age 91, of Fall River, Massachusetts, passed away on August 30, 2026.

    She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Da Costa.

    Born in Furnas, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Mariano Borges and Maria Dos Anjos (Vieira) Borges.

    Maria dedicated her life to her family as a loving homemaker. She was deeply connected to her faith and community through her involvement with the Espirito Santo Church. In her free time, she was known for her wonderful cooking and baking, particularly her malassadas, rice pudding, and homemade Portuguese bread. Her greatest joy was gathering with her family to share these meals and create lasting memories.

    She is survived by her seven children: Tony Da Costa, Jeremy Da Costa, Maria McGovern, Luis Costa, Helena Sousa, Michael Costa, and Raymond Costa. She also leaves behind her sister Maria Jose Borges, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her children Ana, Carlos, John, Walter, and Fernando and her siblings Maria dos Anjos, Ojene, Manuel, Jose, Jeremias, and Tony.

    Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 4th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Oliveira Funeral Home - South Main St. Chapel, 20164 South Main St, Fall River, MA 02724.

    Her funeral will be held on Friday, September 4th, beginning at 9:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Espirito Santo Church, Alden St. Interment will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
