Maria Jose (Tavares) Diogo, 88, of Tecumseh St., a homemaker, died Saturday at home. She was the wife of the late Manuel M. Diogo.
Born in Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Antonia (Arruda) Tavares; she emigrated to this country in 1967 and was a longtime member of the former St. Peter & Paul Parish, later St. Peter & Paul Parish at Holy Cross Church before merging with St. Mary's Cathedral.
She is survived by five sons, Manuel A. Diogo, Joseph Diogo and Lenny Diogo, all of Fall River, John Diogo of Tiverton, RI and Carlos Diogo of Westport, MA; five daughters, Maria dos Santo Borges of Fall River, Teresa Tavares and Antonia Beck, both of North Carolina, Gorretti Camara of Westport, MA, and Leonor Garrett of Florida; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Adelino Diogo and the sister of the late Armando Tavares and Rev. Antonio Tavares.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Cathedral. Interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours Monday 5-8 p.m.
