Fall River

It is with profound sorrow and deep love that we announce the passing of Maria Ganhadeiro, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Maria I. (Germano) Ganhadeiro of Fall River, passed away November 3, 2024, at St. Anne’s Hospital at the age of 77, surrounded by the love of her family. After 57 years of marriage, Maria leaves behind her loving husband, Jose Ganhadeiro, and the wonderful memories of a life well-lived.

Born on September 6, 1947 in Feteiras do Sol, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Luis Germano and Gloria (Goncalves) Germano. Maria’s kindness, warmth, and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone who crossed her path. As a young woman, Maria had a magnetic presence. She made friends wherever she went, and her kindness was matched only by her infectious laughter and the genuine interest she took in the lives of those around her. Maria’s circle of friends was vast, and she maintained lifelong connections with many. Her open heart and joyful spirit made her a friend to everyone, and she was the kind of person who could walk into any room and immediately make it brighter.

As a wife, Maria was a true partner in every sense of the word. She was the rock of her marriage, offering unwavering love, deep loyalty, and steadfast support to her husband, Jose Ganhadeiro. Their bond was one of faith, respect, shared laughter, and a love that grew deeper with each passing year. Together, they created a life full of beautiful memories, facing challenges hand-in-hand and celebrating triumphs together. One of their greatest joys was dancing together. Their connection was reflected in every step, every smile, and every shared laugh. Dancing was not just a pastime for them, it was a way to celebrate their love and the life they had built together. Maria’s love for her husband was constant, nurturing, and unconditional, and she was the heart and soul of their home.

As a mother, Maria was the epitome of love and devotion. Her children were her pride and joy, and she poured her heart into raising them with kindness, patience, and grace. Maria’s legacy lives on through them—her spirit, her compassion, and her unshakable strength are woven into the very fabric of their lives. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she reveled in every moment spent with them, showering them with affection and wisdom.

Maria’s ability to make deep and lasting connections extended beyond her immediate family. She was a friend to many and a confidante to all. Her home was a sanctuary where all were welcomed, and no one ever left without feeling cared for. Whether it was a warm meal, a word of encouragement, or simply a listening ear, Maria always knew how to make people feel special. Her presence in a room was calming, and her advice was wise and full of love.

Maria is survived by her husband Jose Ganhadeiro; her children, Joseph Ganhadeiro and his wife Dulce Ganhadeiro, Judy Cabral, Michael Ganhadeiro, Lisa Bernier and her husband Eric Bernier; her grandchildren Nicole Ferreira, Nathan Ganhadeiro, Ryan Bernier, Zakary Ganhadeiro, Brandon Cabral, Alexa Ganhadeiro and Madison Ganhadeiro; and her brother Salvador Germano.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Luis Germano and Gloria (Goncalves) Germano and her brothers Luis Germano and Horace Germano. Her legacy of love, strength, and grace will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Her funeral will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 at 8 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM at Santo Christo Church, Columbia St., Fall River. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. A visitation will be held Thursday night from 4 - 7 PM.
