Maria A. Inacio, 93, of Fall River, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Vilarinho, Lousã, Coimbra, Portugal, on August 23, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Armando Dias Correia Serra and the late Maria do Rosario de Matos.
Before Maria immigrated to the United States in 1968, she was a proprietor of a local Tavern and Café in Vilarinho, tended to the family’s land, and was a member of Clube Recreativo Vilarinhense of Coimbra. Upon settling in Fall River, she was employed as a seamstress in the local garment industry and was a proud member of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union until her retirement. A lifelong parishioner of Santo Christo Church, she held a deep faith and was devoted to the Rosary of Our Lady of Fatima.
Throughout her retirement, Maria spent her time cooking, gardening, and crocheting. More than anything, Maria’s pride and joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she treasured the opportunity to help raise. She was never happier than when she was surrounded by family. With her family, she enjoyed days at the beach, family trips, dining out, and gathering with loved ones. She never missed a chance to be with her grandchildren and celebrate them, whether at a soccer or football game, school performance, graduation or anything in between, including her first time on a roller coaster with her boys, at the age of 71, in Disney down Thunder Mountain.
Maria is survived by her beloved husband, Luis S. Inacio, of 68 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Altina Inacio, John Inacio and his wife Sandra, her two grandsons, Sebastian and Xavier Inacio; her sister and best friend, Altina Silva; her niece, Deolinda Silva, all from Fall River; as well as many extended family members.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 15, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia Street, Fall River, MA 02721.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, January 16, beginning at 9 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM at Santo Christo Church. Interment will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Southcoast Health Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Center, and Clifton Rehabilitative Nursing Center for all their care and support.
