Maria Sousa

Maria (Mendonca) Sousa, 91, of Fall River passed away on August 18, 2025, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Centere in Providence, Rhode Island surrounded by her family.

    She was the widow of the late Domingos Sousa.

    Born in St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Antonio Mendonca and Ethel (Pereira) Mendonca.

    Maria dedicated most of her career to working as a seamstress and was a devoted parishioner of Good Shepherd Parish. She had a passion for cooking and baking, becoming well-known throughout her community for her delicious massa. Maria had a generous spirit and a loving heart - she cherished her pets, always gave selflessly to others, treasured special moments with her grandchildren, and delighted in bringing family together for gatherings that created lasting memories.

    Maria is survived by her sons, Domingos Sousa and wife Kristen, and Richard Sousa and wife Margaret; her sister, Eduarda Piedade; and her grandchildren, Alexandra Sousa and Kyle Sousa. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Tiffany. She was predeceased by her siblings, Jose, Antonio, Manuel, and Gloria.

    The family would also like to extend their thanks to the staff at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, in Providence, for their kindness and care for Maria.

    A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2025 from 5 to 7 PM at the Oliveira Funeral Home - South Main Street Chapel, 2064 South Main Street in Fall River.

    Her funeral will be held Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 9 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Good Shepherd Parish on South Main Street in Fall River. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
