Mary (Arruda) Stike, 90, formerly of Seapowet Ave., Tiverton, died Monday at Southpointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Oakley T. Stike.
Born in New Bedford, MA, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Maria (Bettencourt) Arruda; she lived most of her earlier years in New Bedford before moving to Tiverton where she lived for many years. Mrs. Stike taught needlepoint was a graduate of Elsa Williams School of Needlepoint.
Mrs. Stike was a homemaker. She was a former Boy Scout Den Mother and a former Girl Scout Leader. She was a former volunteer at the Tiverton Senior Center. She was a member and past president of the VFW, Woodrow L. Silvia Post 5392 Womens Auxiliary in Tiverton. She was a communicant of St. Theresa Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Bethany Bland and her husband Tom of San Antonio, Texas, Sarita Pimentel and her husband Michael of Tiverton and Janet Lane of Tiverton; a son, George "Skip" Stike of Westport, MA; four grandsons, Benjamin, Treavor, George and Michael-Paul; and two great-grandsons, William and Ocean. She was the former companion of Normand Patenaude of Maine.
Her funeral will be held Monday at 8:45 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 South Main Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Stafford Rd., Tiverton. Interment in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown. Calling hours Sunday 4-8 p.m.
