Mary P. Viveiros

Mary (Pacheco) Viveiros, also known as "Maria de America", 94, of Fall River, died Friday, January 1st at Southpointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center. She was the wife of the late Antonio F. Viveiros.
Born in Fall River, MA, she was a daughter of the late Agostinho B. and Mariana (Arruda) Pacheco; she moved to St. Michael, Azores at the age of 12 where she lived until returning to this country in 1949. Mrs. Viveiros worked briefly in the garment industry as a machine operator at the former M & G Sportswear and also worked for the former Pearl Laundry. She was a homemaker for most of her life. Mrs Viveiros loved baking, canning and preserving. She enjoyed playing dominoes and word search. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren; great-grandchildren and other people. She was a longtime communicant of the former St. Elizabeth's Church.
She is survived by five daughters, Philomena Barboza (husband Manuel) of Tiverton, RI, Marie Olivia Silva (husband Richard) of Fall River, Cecilia Carney of Westport, MA, Anne Marie Rider (husband Donald) of Marlborough, MA and Elaine Durfee of Somerset, MA; four sons, John F. Viveiros (wife Maria Helena) of Somerset, MA, Rev. Joseph Viveiros, (Pastor of St. Dominic Church) of Swansea, Antonio F. Viveiros of Fall River and Edward J. Viveiros (wife Donna M.) of Dartmouth, MA; 23 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. She was the mother-in-law of Mary M. Viveiros of Westport; the mother of the late Augustine Viveiros and Antonio Viveiros; the sister of the late Adelina B. Pacheco and grandmother of the late Cynthia Marie Viveiros and Jonathan Durfee.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather Wednesday at 9 a.m. in St. Dominic's Parish Center, GAR Highway, Swansea prior to her Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday at the parish center located behind St. Dominic Church 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for the poor among us, C/o Fr. Joseph Viveiros, 1277 GAR Highway, Swansea, MA 02777. Arrangements are by the Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 South Main St.
