Michael Barboza

Michael Barboza, 62, of Westport, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Cheryl (Conforti) Barboza, of 43 years, before her passing.

    Michael was born in Fall River, MA, raised in Tiverton, RI and moved to Westport where he raised his two children, Nichole and Michael. Michael devoted his life to caring for his family and his job at Gold Medal Bakery where he worked for 47 years. He loved spending time outside in the yard, listening to country music, washing his cars, going to car shows and eating whatever baked goods Cheryl made that day. Michael was talented in mechanics, woodworking, and welding & fabrication. His humility, jokes and loyalty proceeded him with everyone that knew him. Mike always had a daily joke that he would often laugh harder at than those he told it to. Michael believed laughter was the best medicine, and those that knew him always felt better when Mike was around.

    Michael is predeceased by his wife, Cheryl (Conforti) Barboza and survived by his parents, Philomena (Viveiros) Barboza and Manuel Barboza both of Sao Miguel, Acores, his two children, Nichole Barboza (partner Stephen Botelho) of Fall River, and Michael Barboza (partner Alexis McConnell) of Westport, his grandson Demetri Botelho, his siblings, Lisa DaPonte (husband Joe DaPonte) of Westport and Christopher Barboza (wife Nina Barboza) of Tiverton, his nephew Nolan and niece Tess. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

    The family would like to extend a special thanks to the people at Southcoast Cancer Center for their compassion and a very special thanks to Dr Seng, Ny, Nikole, Donna, Sue, and Amy for their care and support.

    His visitation will be held Friday, November 28th, from 4 - 8 PM at the Oliveira Funeral Home - South Main St Chapel, 2064 South Main St., Fall River.

    His funeral will be held on Saturday, November 29 at 9 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00am at St John of God Church in Somerset, MA. Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery. 

    In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Michael’s memory to the Children’s Cancer Foundation or Children’s Cancer Fund.
