Raymond G. Poirier

Raymond G. Poirier of Swansea, MA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was 90 years old. He was the devoted and loving husband of Cizaltina (Sally Felicia) Poirier.
He was born in Fall River, Mass on September 29, 1924 and was the son of the late Joseph George Poirier and Florida (Charette) Poirier. He was a World War II Veteran who proudly served his country in the US Navy Seabees 109 Naval Construction Battalion in the Pacific. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal-1 bronze star.
Raymond lived in Fall River for over 50 years before moving to Little Compton, RI where he built his dream house. After 24 years there he then moved to Swansea, MA in 1998.
He was a well known carpenter in Little Compton, RI for over 40 years. He worked for Colson Simmons Contractors and Compton Construction. He then became self-employed for 15 years before he retired. He was an honorary life time member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Joseph Boehr Council 4753 of RI.
Besides his wife of 68 years, he is survived by a daughter, Sharyn Hennessey & her husband Richard, of Middletown, NY, a son, Roy Poirier & his wife, Marie of Swansea, MA; three sisters, Rose Richard of Warren RI, Rita Cohen of Redondo, CA and Theresa Cordeiro of Somerset, MA; five grandchildren, Richard Hennessey of CA, Kerri (Hennessey) Kelly of PA, Kevin Hennessey of Middletown, NY, Jason Poirier of MA and Dawn Poirier of MA; four great-grandchildren, Erin and Brenday Kelly of PA, and Hadleigh and Kyleigh Hennessey of NY. He was predeceased by his sister Maria Kelly.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 2064 South Main St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Good Shepherd Church. Calling hours will be Friday, March 6, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial with military honors will be at Notre Dame Cemetery, 1540 Stafford Rd, Fall River, MA.
