Richard A. Viera

FALL RIVER - Richard A. Viera, 78, of August Street, Fall River, died Wednesday, July 5th at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of Judith A. (Oliveira) Viera.
Born in Sandwich, MA, he was the son of the late Antone J. Viera and Georgina (Ferreira) Silva; he was a Fall River resident for most of his life. He served in the Army National Guard.
A passion for farming, he owned and operated Little Acres Farm for many years. He was employed by Plymouth Rubber in Canton for 50 years where he served as transportation manager of its shipping and receiving department.
He was the patriarch and rock of his family, often assuming the role of peacemaker.
Besides his wife of 58 years, he is survived by two sons, Carl R. Viera and his wife Claudette of Westport, MA and Steven A. Viera and his wife Judy of Fall River; a daughter, Loriann Sardinha and her husband Michael of Fall River; three brothers, Anthony Viera of Lenox, MA, Daniel Viera of Lowell, VT and Laurence Raposo of CT; 10 grandchildren, Brandon Viera, Justin Viera, Kyle Viera, Cody Viera, Bryan Hamilton, Jessica Hamilton, Tyler Viera, Cameron Sardinha, Dominick Sardinha and Nicole Sardinha; 2 great-grandchildren, Luke and Ashton; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George Viera.
His funeral will be held on Monday, July 10th at 9 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia Street, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Good Shepherd Parish, South Main Street. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery, Stafford Rd., Fall River. Calling hours Sunday 5-8 p.m.
