Fall River

Russell Michael Rego born on November 9, 1973 age 49, passed on May 18, 2023 at Charlton Memorial Hospital Hospice in Fall River, Massachusetts of Anorectal Carcinoma with Metastasis.

Russell was born in Fall River to his father the late Richard M. Rego who passed away early this same year on February 13, 2023 of throat cancer. His mother, Agnes Rego of Dartmouth, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind his beloved son Jayden R. Rego of Fall River. Besides his parents and son, his brother David M.Fortin, Sister-in-law Kimberly, his sister, Donnae M. Fortin. Also, his late Grandmother (Nana) Elsie T. Scolaro, his Auntie and Uncles, Larry and Pat Machado of Swansea, Richard Scolaro of Swansea, the late Phillip Scolaro. Cousins, Larry, Lorrie, Lennie, Lance and Lyle. Nieces and Nephews, Jennifer, Ryan, Crystal, Jordan, great nephew Jadix.

Russell was a lifelong resident of Fall River. He was a well known and very much loved Tattoo Artist in the city. His family found out just how much when scores of friends came to visit at the hospital and tell their stories to his sister and mother. Russell pretty much started the tattoo industry in Fall River and helped get it legal in Massachusetts and board health certified pretty much everyone in the city, trained tattoo artists with their ongoing talent.

Russell leaves countless stories his family never knew. Some of which include always helping people who were down on their luck. Opened his home. Let people crash on his couch, fed them, gave them cash. He also was always there to give you a deal on your tattoo. The kindness was endless. Unfortunately Russell took a rabbit hole turn in his life that he could not shake. Drugs. The devil chased him hard and was relentless. He suffered from mental depression. He told his sister that he felt like he was unwanted and loved which was why he made sure everyone he knew didn't feel the same way by his generosity he gave to others. He lost his home to his addiction, his family and some friends who tried to help him but not truly lost just loved him from a distance. He found out 2 1/2 years ago he had cancer. Didn't go for treatment because of his stubbornness.  He was found in a homeless encampment by Eric who is with SSTAR. This is a community outreach program. Eric got my brother off the street, cleaned him up and made sure Russell got into hospice at Charlton. Words cannot express the gratitude I, his sister, is feeling. Thank you Eric for all you've done for my brother.

Thank you Betsy, his hospice nurse for your love. Also, a VERY big thank you to Bruce Deslauriers of Fall River Tattoo Co. for helping me with the Gofundme. For getting the word out to everyone that helped pay for Russell's final arraignments. You have no idea of the gratitude.  Thank you for the T-shirt. Russell will be wearing your love today. A big Thank you to Jonathon Ferreira at Oliveria's on Columbia Street in Fall River for showing me, and his son Jayden compassion and for taking such awesome care of my brother in his last moments here.
