Sophie Travassos

Sophie (Pedro) Travassos, 89, of Lapham St., Fall River, passed away Saturday at Southpointe Rehabilitation & Nursing Care Center. She was the wife of the late Manuel M. Travassos.

Born in Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Marques and Virgina da Paz (Espinho) Pedro, she resided in Fall River for the past 47 years. Mrs. Travassos worked as a sewing machine operator for many years at the former South Bay Coat.

She is survived by a daughter, Maria Couto (Husband Laudalino) of Fall River; two sons, Arthur Travassos (Wife Patsy) and John Travassos (Wife Manuela), both of Fall River; a sister, Maria dos Anjos Costa of Canada; a brother, Eduardo Pedro of St. Michael, Azores; 5 grandchildren, Mark Couto, Stephanie Andrade, Krystal Couto, Stephen A. Travassos and Jason S. Travassos; 2 great-grandchildren, Lexi Andrade and Julian Andrade; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jose Pedro and Vincent Pedro.

Her funeral will be held Thursday at 8 a.m. from the OLIVEIRA FUNERAL HOME, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Good Shepherd Parish. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Wednesday 5 - 9 p.m.
