Virginia Bernard

April 11, 1920 — July 20, 2016

Virginia (Freitas) Bernard, 96, formerly of Mulberry St., died Wednesday, July 20th at Clifton Rehabilitation Nursing Center in Somerset. She was the wife of the late Dennis Bernard.
Born in Fall River, MA, she was a daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Laurenco) Freitas; she lived most of her life in Fall River and was a communicant of Santo Chisto Church and member of its former Council of Catholic Woman.
Mrs. Bernard last worked as an assistant cook for 12 years for the Head Start Program. She previously worked as a sample maker for several hat manufacturers in the local area.
She is survived by a daughter, Bernadette Beaulieu and her husband Eugene of Somerset; a son, Dennis M. Bernard and his companion Madeleine Reed of Little Compton, RI; three grandchildren, Justin Bernard, Jacqueline Lichwell and her husband Ryan and Daniel Beaulieu; a great-granddaughter, Gwyneth Geraldine Lichwell; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Geraldine M. Bernard and sister of the late Mary "Maime" Andrade, Arthur, Manuel, Joseph, James, Maurice, Edward, William, Antone Freitas and Dolores Correira.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Clifton Rehab. and Nursing Center for the extraordinary care given to Virginia over the past 2 years.
Her funeral will be held Monday at 8 a.m. from the Oliveira Funeral Home, 215 Columbia St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Santo Christo Church. Committal prayers and interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Clifton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center's Activities Program, 500 Wilbur Ave., Somerset, MA 02725.
