FALL RIVER/SWANSEA… Fernandes Medeiros, 97, passed away December 18, 2021, at home, surrounded by his family.
He was the widow of Cecelia (Ferreira) Medeiros.
Fernandes was born in Fall River, a son of the late Manuel Medeiros and Rose (Farias) Medeiros.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Medeiros worked for 40 years as a Cement Truck Driver at Building Materials and was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local #526. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a parishioner of the former Our Lady of Angels. Fernandes enjoyed brewing his own beer, working as a Gate Man at Seekonk Speedway, and playing soccer in his younger years.
He is survived by his daughters: Sandra Gustafson (late husband Steve), of Swansea, and Brenda Rosseau (husband Edgar), of Fall River; his brother Edward Medeiros, of Fall River; his grandchildren: Tammi, Jennifer, and Amanda; his great grandchildren: Emilee, Hailey, Robby, Curtis, and Cecelia; several god children, nieces, and nephews. He was the brother of the late Alfred Medeiros, Manuel Medeiros, Mary Carvalho, Rose Silvia, and Beatrice Mello.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Thursday, December 23, 2021, at 9 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home – South Main St Chapel, 2064 South Main St. Fall River, MA 02724, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Louis de France Church, Buffington St., Swansea. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, from 6 – 8 PM. Masks and social distancing will be required during the services.
