James L. Linhares, age 94, of Tiverton, RI passed away at The Grand Islander Center, Middletown on September 21, 2023. He was a Korean War veteran and was proud to serve his country.
Son of the late John and Mary Linhares, he was predeceased by wife Barbara Hryciw Linhares, son Jeffrey Linhares, brothers Arthur and Frank Linhares, sister Alice Cordeiro and nephew Arthur (Ozzie) Linhares.
He was a man of faith, and a lifelong communicant of Holy Ghost Church. James served his parish as a greeter until recently.
James was employed by the Tiverton Police Department for over a decade as a police officer. He subsequently drove trucks throughout the Northeast and retired as a member of Teamsters Local 59. He also volunteered for the North Tiverton Fire Department.
James, aka Jim/Jimmy, was an avid hockey fan. He especially loved watching Providence and Boston Bruins games, as well as other sports teams - Red Sox and Patriots.
He is survived by Thomas Linhares, his dedicated nephew and caregiver, as well as nephews Ronald Linhares, William Linhares, James Linhares, and niece Mary Ann Cote.
Being a "people" person, he leaves behind many friends from his Tiverton/Fall River community.
Special thanks to his Towne Motors friends and their families, who gave Jim the great gift of companionship during his retirement.
