Leonel Torres de Sousa

FALL RIVER… Leonel Torres de Sousa, 91, of Fall River, passed away May 4, 2022 at home, surrounded by his family.

He was the husband of Ines (da Silva Correia) de Sousa.

Born in Ribeirinha, Sao Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel de Sousa and Irene Jesus Torres.

Before retiring, Leonel worked as a nursery worker at Boulevard Nursery, in Rhode Island, for many years. He enjoyed gardening, watching wrestling and western movies, soccer, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his daughters Maria de Lurdes de Sousa (husband Luis), of Canada, Olga Burton (husband David), of Dartmouth, and Lilia S. Hauck (husband Robert), of Dartmouth; his sons Carlos de Sousa (wife Ana), of Canada, Luis Sousa (wife Angie), of Swansea, and Emanuel Sousa (girlfriend Lynn), of Fall River; 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was the brother of Manuel Torres Sousa, Cecilia Cabral, Joao Torres Sousa, Irene Borges, Jose Torres Sousa, Virginia Cavaco, BibianaPascoal, Luis Torres Sousa, Antonio Torres Sousa, Maria de Lurdes Botelho and Amelia de Jesus Torres Melo.

The family would also like to thank Antonia "Betty" Lopes, Manuel Lopes, and Antonia's family for all of the love, care, and friendship they provided Leonel.

His funeral will be held Tuesday, May 10, at 9 AM, from the Oliveira Funeral Home – South Main St. Chapel, 2064 South Main St., Fall River, MA 02724 followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM at Good Shepherd Parish, South Main St., Fall River. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours will be held Monday night, from 5 – 8 PM.
