Lorraine (Almeida) Mendonca

FALL RIVER… Lorraine (Almeida) Mendonca, 91, of Fall River, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Clifton Rehabilitation Nursing Center, surrounded by her family.

She was the widow of the late Gabriel Mendonca.

Born in Fall River, she is predeceased by her mother, Marion (Viveiros) Almeida, her father, Manual J. Almeida, and brother Manual Almeida, Jr.

Prior to retiring, Lorraine was employed as a waitress at the Liberal Club. Earlier in life, she was employed at the Newport Naval Base, Driscoll Ice Arena and various factories throughout Fall River.  She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Liberal Club, the Royal Travelers, and the Melody Club, of Fall River. She enjoyed participating in the celebration of the Holy Ghost for many years and became known as the "coffee lady" at the Holy Ghost Feast at Liberal Club.  Lorraine enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughter Deborah A. Saba (husband Steven J.), of East Freetown; her son Steven G. Mendonca (wife Eileen), of Fall River; grandchildren David and Peter Mendonca, Casey and John “Jack” McCarthy, and great granddaughter Alexandra Mendonca.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 9 AM from the Oliveira Funeral Home - South Main St. 2064 South Main Street, Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at Holy Trinity Church, 951 Stafford Road, Fall River. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday from 4 - 7 PM.
