Margaret Rose McKenna

d. January 21, 2023

Portsmouth, RI

Margaret Rose McKenna, 73 years old, of Portsmouth, RI, passed away the morning of January 21, 2023 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, in Providence, RI. She had lung cancer that had metastasized to her lymph nodes and brain. Normally a very aggressive disease, Peg had an agenda with goals and ensured she completed all before passing. Many times in her life, death came knocking, and she sent it away as she wasn’t finished and ready. This time, she was ready.

Peg was preceded in death by her mother and father, Rose and Norbert McKenna, sisters Laura Almond and Christine McKenna, and her brother Norbert William McKenna. Peg is survived by her sisters Patricia Stone and her husband Ron, Kathleen Addison, Mary McKenna, and Dorothy McKenna, and her brothers Joseph McKenna and his wife Judith, Matthew McKenna and his wife Joanne, and Douglas McKenna and his wife Joan. Also by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be missed by her many friends too.

Peg was a woman with a love of photography, with a passion for sharing her art and enjoying art and music of others. She loved being out in nature enjoying the weather, the scenic views, and the serenity while capturing it all on her cameras. She loved words, Scrabble, and Jeopardy (don’t call 7:30-8:00 PM). But what she loved most were the people in her life. So many people, so much love.

She had a tough life in the body she was given, but in spite of that, she made it a life that she loved. She would spread her sunshine while fighting her physical challenges and pain demons. A tough and determined woman driven to live her life as best as she could.

She will be missed, by so many and so much. But she is free of the pain and challenges and has gone home.

The family will be doing a celebration of Peg’s life in the spring.
